PAUL Liggins won the Men’s Double Roll-up competition at Cleobury Mortimer GC.

Despite an amber yellow weather warning in place for high winds over the two days, the competition saw some unbelievable golf played.

Youngster Jem Jones stated his intent for a big 2015, scoring 37 points to take third place from a host of other members including John Haywood, Stuart Humphries and Dean Carpenter with a superior countback.

Andy Thomas, who currently leads the Division One order of merit, continued his fine form with 38 points scored on the Saturday. But he was just pipped to the post by the ever-smiling Liggins.

Playing with his close friends Bob Lucas and John Westley, Liggins made a mockery of the tough conditions with a storming back nine to shoot 40 points and take top spot.

Director of golf Dave Pain said: “Paul is a very dangerous player off his handicap and is more than capable of these scores no matter what the conditions.

“It’s interesting that Paul won playing with last week’s winner, Bob and John.

“I’m sure if this continues everyone will want to play with these two.”

Meanwhille, Jack Severn won the club’s final competition of 2014.

Colin Hopewell and Gordon Moriaty both shot 40 points to take second and third place, respectively.

But the weekend belonged to the talented 13-year-old, who also shot 40 points off his handicap of five to take home the top prize with a superior back count.
