KIDDERMINSTER Carolians back-to-basics approach is paying off, believes director of rugby Phil Knowles.

KCs recorded a fifth away win of the season in the Midlands Division Two West (North) by seeing off Camp Hill 30-12 in Birmingham on Saturday.

Victory lifted the Marlpool Lane outfit to sixth in the table.

He said: “It was a good performance, everybody played well.

“We’ve got no particular focus on playing home or away but what we’ve done is changed our style. We concentrate on getting the basics right and going from there.

“The coaches have done a good job and we’ve also done away with more of a risky style of play.

“We’re playing the percentages and it’s working.”

KCs had been trailing 12-5 early on but tries for Rhys Pritchard, Layton Wilkinson and Rob Phillips made sure of a stirring comeback.

Knowles added: “We scrummaged very well and playing Andy McLellan at number ten has given us a lot more solidity.”

Kidderminster will continue their on-going rivalry against Worcestershire rival Droitwich, when they welcome them to Marlpool Lane on Saturday (2pm ko) in the North Midlands Cup.

Spa may be eighth in the Midlands Division Two West (South) table but have won four of their last five games to rally from a poor start to the season.

Kidderminster finished third in the same division last year but their two clashes with Droitwich were close as they drew with them and narrowly defeated Spa 22-17.

Knowles added: “Droitwich have always been a bit of a bogey side for us, we have played each other a lot over the last few years so both clubs know each other well.

“They had a slow start to the season but are playing well at the moment and it won’t be easy.”

George Morgan is set for a fitness test tomorrow, while Jordan Hatch is still sidelined with his broken nose.
