ROD Brown has brought in experienced midfielder Lee Downes to fill the gap left by two players leaving at Stourport Swifts.

Downes had recently left Chasetown and has played at a higher level for Redditch United, Stafford and Leamington.

Youngster Ryan Wollacott has also joined from Causeway United.

Swift saw experienced midfielder Spencer decide to give up playing this season, while striker Lewis Pountney, who has scored ten goals this season, has decided to hang up his boots for good.

Manager Brown said: “I am disappointing that experienced players like Kevin and Lewis have decided not to finish the season, but we wish them the best of luck.

“Lewis has told me he’s hanging up his boots as well this week.

“But I think it was time to shake up the squad anyway. We haven’t been playing well generally and that includes the senior players as well.

“So this is an opportunity to add some new faces to the squad.

“Lee is a very experienced player who has a good pedigree from a higher level, so we’re delighted to get him in.

“Ryan’s a young lad but he can play wide or in central midfield.”

Swifts endured another tough week after they were beaten 2-1 by Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday.

John Griffin had scored an equaliser but Brett Darby bagged the winner for Dynamo.

Tuesday night’s game at home to Alvechurch was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Brown added: “We’ve been involved in two strange games recently, where we’ve not played well in the first half and improved in the second and not taken our chances.

“I was glad the Alvechurch game was called off, it allowed me take stock and try to strengthen.”

Swifts, who are 11th in the Midlands Premier, go to Rocester on Saturday (3pm start) and on Tuesday host AFC Wulfrunians (7.45pm start).
