ROD Brown says he isn’t afraid of making tough choices to turn around cash-strapped Kidderminster Harriers’ fortunes.

The former Bromsgrove Rovers, Redditch and Stourport manager is set to be named vice chairman of the Aggborough outfit once all the paperwork at the FA goes through.

Brown has remit to assess the cash-strapped club over the next seven weeks, increase their commercial capability and make recommendations to the board.

The club have been beset by money problems this season, which has seen many of the big earning players move on.

He said: “The board have been talking to me for some time but I wanted to make sure Stourport had some stability before I left.

“But I wanted to join now so I could look at every facet of the club and make an assessment of what Harriers needs to do to succeed.

“I will talk to every employee or person who has a role at the club to find out what’s needed to be done.

“I am a football man but I have also helped ailing businesses and ran my own successfully.

“Kidderminster is a business and it must be ran that way. It’s about cashflow and if that isn’t right a business cannot function.

“I wouldn’t have joined unless I had the ability to make changes and there will be tough decisions.

“It’s about everyone pulling in the right direction, that’s the only way that we can do well."

“Not everyone is going to agree with them all but they will be for the right reasons.”

Brown is expected make a financial contribution, with directors supposed to put in £10,000 each season.

He also has a good track record in non-league football. Together with current Harriers boss Gary Whild, they guided Redditch United to the Conference North and also secured promotion with Bromsgrove and Stourport.

He added: “While I am not a die-hard Kidderminster fan, I am a fan of football and I want Kidderminster Harriers to succeed and to bring a smile back to people’s faces. It won’t happen overnight, I can’t just sprinkle magic dust on in, it will take time and hard work but we can do it.”

Chairman Ken Rae welcomed Brown’s impending appointment and also said directors would be open and honest at tonight’s fans’ forum.

He said: “We’re delighted to have Rod on board, he ticks all of the boxes in terms of his business and football experience.

“We are already putting plans in place for next season but Rod can help us tweak areas that need changing all the better.

“We are looking forward to the fans forum, where we will be as open and honest as we possibly can.”

“I am incredibly excited to join what is a great club. I was at the game against Dover but my first impression is that there was a lack of confidence on the pitch and elsewhere as well.

“I am a fresh pair of eyes who will be able to see the areas that need fixing.

“Kidderminster Harriers is a big club and if everyone pulls together then I have no doubt can forward, not backwards.”
