KIDDERMINSTER Carolians under-17s booked their place in the finals of the National Midlands Plate after defeating Nottingham-based Paviors 32-17.

KCs will now tackle Syston in the final at Broadstreet RFC on March 29.

The hosts produced a comprehensive display, powering into a 20-5 lead by half-time and never looked back.

Hakeem Hussain opened the scoring when he crossed for a well-worked try which was converted by fullback Sam Faulkner. Paviors responded with a good spell of pressure of their own and five minutes later they cut the deficit to 7-5 with a score of their own.

But Carolians survived several scares and took control of the match.

Kidderminster scored a terrific try, running the ball out of defence with some smart handling which put Faulkner into space on halfway and he showed the opposition a clean pair of heels to score wide out on the left.

The fullback’s own excellent conversion extended the lead to a healthy 17-5 and two minutes before the break he added another three points, making no mistake with a penalty right in front of the posts.

Paviors responded with a touch-down to make it 20-12 but the East Midlands side’s hopes of a fight back were dashed by KCs.

An exhilarating mazy run by Faulkner took Kidderminster up to Paviors’ ten-metre line and they wasted no time in moving the ball to right wing Arthur Morgan who crossed for an unconverted try.

KCs continued to run from deep at every opportunity but the visitors were proving to be very resilient and midway through the half their number 11 almost got over at the right corner following a quickly taken tap penalty.

Another Paviors try reduced arrears but Carolians took another step towards some silverware when Ryan Carter touched down and Faulkner added the extras.

The senior team return to action in the Midlands West (North) at home to Stafford on Saturday (3pm ko).
