JUNIOR rowers from Stourport Boat Club produced a series of stunning performances at the West Midlands Regional Trials in Worcester over the weekend.

Places were up for grabs at the Junior Inter-Regional Championships but the club had one of their best days at the trials and secured 14 medals, a haul which included two goals.

Youngsters raced against the clock over a 2,500 metre course on the River Severn.

Single scullers Dan Glover and Molly Clarke, who both attend Stourport High School, won gold in their respective Junior 13 categories, beating strong crews from Evesham, Ross, and AB Severn.

Highlights of the day included, at J13, the coxed quad of Amy Furminger-Burrows, Katie Sweeny, Lauren Rhodes and Julia Miller, coxed by Maddie Hill, who were rowing as a relatively new crew in only their second competitive outing, picking up a silver medal with a time of 9.49.

Single sculler Dan Rowley picked up silver against tough competition in the Junior 14 category with a time of 10.46 and the J15 double scull crew of Callum O’Reily and Sam Branford won a silver medal, as their nearest rivals AB Severn from Tewkesbury managed to put some water between them at the start.

The fantastic days’ results were just reward for all the hard work the young rowers, and their coaches, have put in over the winter training season.

Final decisions on selection of who will represent the West Midlands will be made within the next month.
