ACTING manager Dave Connell did his credentials no harm at all after leading Stourport Swifts to a pleasing 2-1 win at Leicestershire side Quorn in the Midland League Premier.

Connell has already declared an interest in taking over the vacant manager's position at Swifts following the departure of Rod Brown and chairman Chris Reynolds confirmed: "I plan to start interviewing for the job next week. I've already had a number of applications, many of whom are involved with other clubs."

Reynolds couldn't hide his delight with Swifts' display at Quorn, especially as both central defenders Michael Briscoe and Jamie Willetts were absent.

Connell drafted Paul Hurrell and Ryan Wollacott into the heart of defence and both excelled, Hurrell heading Swifts in front while Ashley Parsons-Smith added a second before Quorn pulled a goal back from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game.

Ashley Bunn, brother of goalkeeper Brendan Bunn, came into defence while Dan Keir replaced the injured Brendan Bunn in goal.

Reynolds added: "The youngsters have really stepped up and this is the direction where we need to be looking. The problem will be keeping hold of them. We've already lost Calvin Dinsley and Jordan Jones to Redditch United.

"I had a meeting with Rod after the defeat to Tipton Town and felt the time was right for a change. I see no reason why we cannot achieve a top six finish this season.

Swifts host Causeway United this Saturday and can welcome back top marksman John Griffin following his recent departure from the club.
