Kidderminster Carolians 46, Tamworth 12 KIDDERMINSTER Carolians secured third place in the Midlands Division Two West (North) as they completed their league campaign by seeing off bottom side Tamworth on Saturday.

The hosts made a flying start when Chris Pinner scored a first-minute penalty, before Alex Thompson touched down for an 8-0 lead.

KCs piled on the pressure but were not taking their chances before two more penalties by Pinner increased their lead to 14-0.

They bagged a second try when Layton Wilkinson charged forward and produced good ball to give George Morgan an easy run in for a 19-0 interval lead which really should have been a lot more.

Tamworth had offered hardly any threat as an attacking force but they began the second period with a rare spell of pressure in KCs 22 until their progress was ended by a knock on.

Carolians responded almost immediately and after several good phases of play, the influential Wilkinson burst clear to score under the post for a while which Pinner converted to make it 26-0.

Tamworth responded with a score of their own when Rob Gemmell went over the line.

But KCs soon powered into a 47-7 lead.

The hosts were making hard work of it but later Morgan broke free from his would-be tacklers to score wide out on the right and with Tamworth now getting stretched yet another run by Wilkinson in open play enabled Jordan Hatch to wriggle over in the right corner.

With twenty five minutes played the irrepressible Wilkinson crossed for his second try to finish off a fine passage of play by Kidderminster’s forwards and extend the advantage to 41-7.

Morgan was denied a third try by a forward pass but almost immediately completed his hat-trick.

Tamworth bagged a consolation after KCs had carelessly knocked on.

Kidderminster will be looking for a big improvement when they take on either Bridgnorth or Malvern in the final of the North Mids Shield on May 10 (1.30pm ko).
