A SMALL Wyre Forest team more than held their own at the Gloucester Open meet.

Seven regional qualifying times were set along with a haul of medals collected and personal best times recorded on a good day for the club.

Assistant head coach Lucy Walters said: ‘I am very proud of the way the swimmers conducted themselves, even when things didn’t go quite to plan. They came together as a team and were rewarded with many personal bests and the odd medal or two.

“As the younger swimmers grow in confidence they are bringing themselves up to the high standard the senior swimmers are setting. A great atmosphere to be in.”

Abbie Rowley gained regional qualification in the 50m butterfly and backstroke and there was also success for Jordan Chappell (50m, 100m, 200m breaststroke) and Jon McMahon (50m, 100m butterfly).
