Lye Town 2, Stourport Swifts 2

A controversial penalty 20 minutes from time denied Swifts all three points at high-flying Lye.

Two goals from the excellent Ashley Parsons-Smith looked to have secured the win only for the Black Country side to level from the spot after Ashley Bunn was adjudged to have shoved Ricky Anslow to the floor when in fact it seemed the Lye player had barged into him.

Bunn was promptly sent off for his heated argument with the referee and Damian Whitcombe dispatched the kick.

The result was harsh on Swifts who had twice taken the lead.

The opening goal came in the 20th minutes when Parsons-Smith drilled a shot into the top corner of the Lye net.

The home side came out strongly at the start of the second half and Anslow levelled on 50 minutes, finally finding a way through the Stourport defence that had been rock solid all afternoon.

Another excellent strike from Parsons-Smith on 65 minutes restored Swifts’ advantage but their celebrations were cut short by the disputed penalty four minutes later.

Swifts are back in action tomorrow [Tue] when AFC Wulfrunians visit Walshes Meadow before rounding off the season with a home match against Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday, a game that will see new manager Mark Phillips take charge for the first time.
