As we draw near to the end of the season, the games become fewer but it is also the time when Cup Finals take place. This week the Ladies 1st team took a break from the West Midlands Women’s League to play in this year’s Women’s County Cup.

Wyre Forest Phoenix 0 v 5 Dudley Sports Girls

After a few weeks off, The Under 13's were back at it against high flying Dudley. They started well containing the pressure from Dudley and battling hard in the midfield. Phoenix didn't really threaten but were playing well as a team and frustrating Dudley. Then out of a hopeful cross, Dudley broke the deadlock. 1 minute before half time, Dudley put a cross in and the Phoenix defender swung a foot and it ended up in her own net. Phoenix felt deflated as they had played so well and were looking at going in even at the break.

After a number of substitutions in the second half, Phoenix lost their way and the score soon increased to 4-0 with some long range shots ending up in the Phoenix net. Still they battled on. However Phoenix gave away a late penalty for handball, which Dudley converted. Final score 5-0. The score line flattered the opponents as Phoenix (particularly in the first half) produced a battling display. Girl of the game was Natacha Trabulo.

Herefordshire & Worcestershire Women’s County Cup

Droitwich Spa Ladies 2 v 0 Wyre Forest Phoenix Ladies 1st

League leader’s Droitwich were rewarded with a victory in this cup final but not an easy one. WFP Ladies certainly made them work for it.

The venue was Stourport swifts and it was great to see a bumper crowd at the event to support both teams and give plenty of voice in the windy conditions.

It took 46 minutes for Droitwich to take the lead with some quick thinking work from one of their top strikers April Pouldon who pinched the ball from a defensive error in the box to slot it home.

WFP were disappointed to concede and tried hard to set the game even, but every attempt failed to get past the keeper.

10min into the second half and Droitwich doubled their lead after a set piece corner.

WFP tried in vain to get back into the game but Droitwich shut the door at every opportunity.

Well played to Droitwich who pressured us well and stopped us getting into our own game.

WFP Ladies 1st are again in cup action on Sunday, this time it is the League Cup semi-final at home against Lye with KO at 2.00pm
