JUDO ace Kate Walker was back to her best as she destroyed all opposition to win the English Senior Open.

Her first four opponents, all national black belts, lasted no more than thirty seconds each as the 17-year-old took them apart.

Each was outgripped and thrown by an array of techniques, and if they lasted long enough to go into groundwork were then effortlessly disposed of. A second-level black belt was thrashed inside thirty seconds in the semi-final - which also gave Walker more points towards her third-level black belt - and that put Kate into the final against a professional.

Although that contest went the distance Walker was soon several scores up and not looking in any danger of conceding.

The resultant gold was the 60th of her career, taking her overall medal tally to approaching 150 and securing a fifth national title.

l Samurai Ladies stablemate Ali Lane has become a second-level black belt.

The former national medalist is coaching the club's beginners. For details about starting judo or information about the Samurai club telephone 07761 122977.
