Sunday 28 June saw the annual Female Football Festival Run by the Midwest Counties Female Football League. It was again held at the Areley Kings Football Club Kidderminster and Wyre Forest Phoenix FC made a good showing again this year.

All of the teams turned up to this annual 5-a-side tournament, some even managed two teams, but the under 18 group was cancelled due to lack of interest. There was some excellent football on display within the group stages.

The most note able results for the club came from the Ladies and the Under 14 team.

Both of the ladies teams finished well in their groups only to lose their semi-final games, although competition was tough.

The under 14 team beat local rivals. Cookley girls in a penalty shoot-out semi-final. They then faced Redditch in the final, to again go to penalties. They finally secured the trophy when the 4th penalty was scored. This was after the Phoenix keeper had saved Redditch’s 3rd and 4th shots making it impossible for them to win after Phoenix had scored all 4.

Well done to everybody who took part.

Wyre Forest Phoenix are now looking for player of all ages to enhance our teams. We are especially looking for Under 9-10 Boys and Ladies but all youth teams have spaces for anyone who wishes to take up the game. With the England Ladies performing so well in the world cup it is clear that this sport is for both Girls and boys.
