SOME impressive bowling saw Kidderminster Victoria earned a winning draw against Worcestershire rivals Ombersley in the Birmingham League Premier.

KVCC won the toss and elected to bat, but were soon one down when Matt Pardoe was caught by Uday Kaul on eight.

But a stand of 85 between Nathan Round and Craig Wood (33) got Kidderminster back on track, before the latter was stumped by 'keeper Kaul off the bowling of Neil Slade.

A 69-run stand, 69, between Round and Richard Kimberlin saw the score rise to 165, but 39 overs had been bowled.

Kimberlin was out lbw to Duncan Catterall for 34, but Round had batted superbly for his 85 before he was caught by IPL player Kaul.

Michael Hill (2), Connor Smith (8) and Andrew Siwicki (3) were all caught, but Jonathan Wright halted the slide before the loss of Andy Kimberlin (1) and cousin Tom (9) saw KVCC out for 215.

The innings ended with three overs remaining, giving Ombersley the extra overs when they batted.

But Victoria made a good start to the Ombersley innings, taking the first five wickets for 116 runs in 38 overs.

Liam Gwynne (8) was caught behind by Tom Kimberlin off Connor Smith; Kaul (31) was also caught by Kimberlin, bowled by his brother Richard, who took a second wicket when Joshua Dell (5) was caught by Andrew Siwicki.

Then the two spinners, Pardoe and Charlie Stainforth came into the attack ,with the captain dismissing Henry Wynn and Catterall (both 3).

Nick Hammond kept the fight alive for Ombersley with a patient 102 off 170 balls as Kidderminster’s opponents made 186-7 in reply.

Pardoe took 3-36, Richard Kimberlin 2-15 and Smith and Stainforth one each. Round and Wright also bowled well.

Next Saturday KVCC, who are eighth in the league, play third-from-bottom Kenilworth Wardens at home with a 12 noon start.
