COOKLEY bounced back to winning ways with an empathic victory over Wormelow in Worcestershire Division Two.

Following the previous day’s downpours, skipper Paul Thomas had no hesitation in winning the toss and inserting the Herefordshire side.

Danny Soley took three wickets in three overs and Jaimen Rudd had 3-8 as the visitors were all out for 152.

Rudd (87 not out) then completed a man-of-the-match performance with another fine display of batting 87 not out as Cookley knocked the runs off to win by eight wickets.

Despite Bredon’s defeat at Coombs Wood, they are still top but only six points separate the leaders from Cookley and third-placed Stourport.

Cookley will be hoping to maintain their promotion push at Harborne on Saturday (1pm start).

The Seconds got the better of Alvechurch by 140 runs.

Simon Anderson won the toss and batted with in-form Ben Quinlan (151) scoring Cookley’s highest 21st century individual score and his third hundred of the season.

Mitch Taylor also contributed with a cultured 87.

In reply, the villager’s James Brown got his leg spin mojo working to bowl Alvechurch out for 197 to seal a comfortable 140-run triumph.

The Thirds' game against Romsley was conceded and they were awarded 24pts to take them also to sixth in the Division Seven North table.

They travel to Bewdley on Saturday (1pm).
