ASSISANT manager Mark Creighton is confident rookie midfielder Luke Maxwell will only get better.

Harriers take on Gateshead away in the Vanarama National League today (3pm ko) aiming to record their first win of the season.

But while Kidderminster have only picked up a point and lost to Dover, Guiseley and Wrexham, Maxwell shone on those games.

A product of the club's youth academy, a joint enterprise with Stourbridge College, after making his debut last season he has not looked back and is a regular starter in central midfielder.

Creighton said: "He's magnificent, he's only just 18 but he can play technical football, roll his sleeves up and he's fearless.

"He needs to work on his heading and if he can improve that area he'll be a very good all-round player."

With Reece Styche serving a one match ban after his sending off against Wrexham, manager Gary Whild has a number of options to fill the striker's role.

Gurjit Singh and West Bromwich Albion loanees Andre Wright and Tahvon Campbell have all impressed as they make the step up to professional football.

Aman Verma has played as a striker before, while Reece Hales scored against Swindon Town for the under-21s in a midweek clash.

Medical experts have said that defender Kelvin Langmead's heel injury is no worst is first feared.

Whild is hoping he'll be back in time for next week's home game against Forest Green Rovers.

Gateshead have made a good start to the season with three wins out of far, only blotting their copy book with a 4-1 loss at Tranmere Rovers.

The Shuttle will have a report from the clash on our website this evening.
