BEN Whitfield produced a dazzling midfield display as he inspired Harriers to a second win of the season.

The on-loan Bournemouth midfielder celebrated extending his spell at Kiddy until January with a wonder goal to seal back-to-back home wins for the first time since December 2014.

New signing James McQuilkin had opened the scoring as Harriers produced a fine all-round display.

Harriers made two changes from the side which lost midweek at Chester.

Winger McQuilkin started after joining the club for a second time, while midfielder Luke Maxwell returned from injury.

Both teams produced some entertaining football in a very even first half.

In the tenth minute, Whitfield drove forward and teed up wideman Zaine Francis-Angol.

The former Motherwell man delivered a speedy raking ball across the box but a sliding Jordan Murphy steered just wide at the far post.

Aldershot though created two very good chances, with winger Dan Walker producing a host of good deliveries on the right flank.

One such cross should have been headed into the back of the net by Afoiabi Akinyemi in the 21st but he directed his effort over the bar.

Richard Brodie also headed a good chance straighten at keeper Dean Snedker in the 32nd minute.

Harriers made a fine start to the second half and signalled their attacking intent with a succession of corners, which saw Kyle Howkins and McQuilkin steering headers wide.

But they deservedly took the lead in the 52nd minute. Fine work by Whitfield allowed Murphy to race to the byline and pull the ball back, allowing McQuilkin to finish well from close range.

Whitfield grabbed a deserved first goal at Aggborough on the hour mark, beating two men before firing a superb 20-yard effort into the top corner.

Aldershot made a double changes as Charlie Walker and Tom Richards came on.

Walker tested keeper Dean Snedker's reactions with a well-hit low drive but the shot-stopped did well to dive to his right and claw it away.

Snedker had to be alert when a Walker hit a fine free-kick which Harriers' keeper had to tip over the bar.

Kiddy made their first change in the 78th minute, with Jordan Jones in for Matt Young, a switch which saw Francis-Angol slot into the left-back position.

Maxwell, having his best game of the season, also saw a long range effort fly wide.

Whitfield was given a standing ovation when he was replaced by rookie striker George Obosu in the 88th minute.

Victory meant second from bottom Harriers close the gap on 20th spot to just six points.
