BEWDLEY Town boss Phil Mullen held a heart-to-heart talk with his players ahead of this week's trip to high flying AFC Bridgnorth, writes

Mullen made certain that both chairman Geoff Edwards and secretary Steve Godfrey were present at the pre-match chat.

The Bewdley boss was eager to put his cards on the table after the debacle of their 5-0 League Cup beating by lowly Bromyard Town in midweek.

Mullen insisted: "I wanted to remind the players of their responsibilities, not only to themselves, but to the people that help run the club and do all the hard work behind the scenes.

"They all needed to take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror and I crammed everyone into the changing rooms to tell them."

It clearly had the desired effect as Bewdley went onto beat Bridgnorth 2-0.

Mullen admitted: " I'm not getting carried away, but we did well in every department.

"We defended really well, but it wasn't a backs-to-the-wall job. Our goalkeeper didn't get his gloves dirty in the first half.

"Bridgnorth had a go in the second half, but the players did what the manager asked of them."

Mullen was able to make several changes following the Bromyard beating by bringing in goalkeeper Nat Drew, Simon Rudd, Callum Martin and Richard Young, which made a big difference.

Two goals from Luke Morris did the trick against Bridgnorth but it could have been more, especially when Richard Young struck the underside of Bridgnorth's crossbar and then saw the ball bounce straight down without crossing the line.

Bewdley are due to entertain Stone Old Alleynians this Saturday, but any further rain could put the fixture in doubt.

On Tuesday, Bewdley travel to Stourport Swifts for a Worcestershire Senior Urn game.
