SWIMMING: Three swimmers in Wyre Forest’s Performance Squad went to Nottingham for the Midlands Region Short Course Championships.

Their competitors included large squads from the likes of Loughborough University, so it was a tough competition against the best swimmers in the region.

John McMahon competed in the open age group for the first time in both the 50 metre and 100m butterfly.

McMahon produced two personal-best times, improving on his rankings by 17 places in the 100m to finish 28th and by 22 places in the 50m to finish 22nd in the whole region.

Abbie Rowley competed in the under-15 age group.

On day one, she competed in the 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley, giving solid performances which saw her finish in 21st and 62nd place respectively.

Her best swim was on day two in the 50m butterfly.

Although being a year younger that many of her counterparts, Rowley finished 20th in the junior section with a new personal-best time.

Harvey Thompson finished 71st in the 50m freestyle.
