A BRILLIANT display with the bat and ball by Mark Mansell helped Kidderminster Victoria to a seven wicket win over Coventry North Warwickshire as they recorded their first win of the season in the Birmingham and District League Premier Division on Saturday.

An unplayable spell by Mansell was key to reducing Coventry to a small total, before a defiant performance with the bat provided the springboard to a much needed victory.

Coventry batted first after a rain delay and began solidly. Jonathan Miles and Ted Baylis' disciplined bowling kept Coventry restricted to 74 runs in 20 overs.

The breakthrough dame when Matt Brace caught Tom Gleghorn (33) off Miles' delivery.

Marc Derrick, who was introduced in the 20th over, increased the pressure on Coventry and his economical spell of 16 runs from 11 overs saw him take two wickets.

At the other end Mansell was even more effective, stunning Coventry with three wickets for no runs in 11 overs, as he had Barnes stumped by wicketkeeper Josh Knappett for 14, Tony Bristow out for five and James Taplin removed lbw for a duck.

This left Coventry shell-shocked and Kidderminster wrapped up their innings by removing Chris Pyke (7) and David Jakeman (0) as they slumped to 102 all out in the 51st over. Keeper Knappett was also a key player with two stumpings.

Kidderminster struggled at first to reach their target for victory, when captain Jonathan Wright was bowled for 17 by Eburah and Knappett was bowled for three.

Mansell and Craig Wood though ensured Kidderminster recovered from their rocky start and guided their team to victory inside 25 overs.

Mansell showed determination to score 49 off 75 balls, hitting five fours and a six, before he was caught by Stevenson off Jakeman's bowling.

Wood, still to get into form this season, batted with great concentration and scored 23 runs that included two sixes onto the pavilion roof as they cruised to 104-3.
