WITH just one week to go in the Allan and John Cup, the Kidderminster and District League teams are stepping it up in the groups.

In Group One, Workmans got off to a good start, winning against Pockets C by taking the first and second frames.

Rob Southall of Workmans confirmed their win with 76 in his frame, while Pockets won the doubles frame but Workmans completed the night by clinching the final singles frame to make it 4-1.

Pockets D got the better of Wribbenhall 3-2.

After four frames, the score was 2-2 but Pockets scored 69 in the doubles.

In an all-Premier League clash, Franche defeated Workmans A 4-1.

Franche’s Andy Jackson scored a 26 break in his total of 73.

They then took the next two frames, before Workmans took the third.

Keith Morris then won both his singles and the doubles frame along with Andy Jackson to seal Franche’s success.

Workmans A still hold on to top slot in the group on 15 points, with Franche only one point behind.

In Group Two, Division One Chester Road surprised Premier side Cookley to win 5-0.

Mike Smith of Chester Road came back well in his frame from a 28-point deficit to score 70 points and win, and he was also half of the doublespair.

The second match was an all-Premier League clash between Pockets B and St Johns D, the early leaders of this group.

Pockets took the two early tight sets and then got the better of St John’s 4-1.

This means Pockets B lead the group on 23 points with Chester Road second on 17.

In Group Three, Pockets E edged out St John’s E 3-2.

St Johns got off to a great start with James Allington scoring 82 in his frame.

Andy Smith and Taylor Fish from Pockets helped them fight back to a 2-1 lead.

The final singles frame was won by John Betton of Pockets scoring 67, while the doubles frame saw St Johns pair of James Allington and Martin Lippitt win by just a single point.

In the second match, St George’s lost 4-1 to Pockets A.

Pockets F defeated their teammates from the S team.

At the top of this group there are four teams all on 14 points, so the final week’s matches really will be crucial.
