BEWDLEY Town believe they have crossed the first hurdle in their attempts to improve pitch problems at Ribbesford Meadow.

Unhappy Bewdley haven't played a home game since October 31 as a result of drainage problems which prove unable to cope with the continuing wet weather.

Bewdley had a visit from an inspector from the Institute of Groundsmen this week who examined the pitch.

Club secretary Steve Godfrey said: "The Football Association use this company to inspect pitches with problems like ours.

" It's hoped he will enable us to fast track applications to obtain grants.

"He also advised us on work we can carry out to help in the short term - but we still need a dry spell of weather before we can do anything."

In the meantime Bewdley are reduced to operating on a nomadic basis which means they are getting very little income.

Steve Godfrey added: "There's no alarm at the moment because there's still plenty of scope on the fixture list to re-arrange matches -. but we still have bills to pay."

Bewdley are due to host rock bottom Tipton Town on Saturday but already the prospects are unpromising.

But there was some ray of sunshire for Bewdley this week following their stunning recovery to win 2-1 at Willenhall Town.

Eddie Wilson's first half strike looked destined to give Willenhall the points but Bewdley staged a late, late show where Callum Martin and Jon Griffin grabbed goals in the 88th and 89th minutes.

Steve Godfrey confirmed: "It was an explosive finish to say the least considering we didn't even look like scoring for most of the game."
