CLAIRE Cashmore has said she still feels excited after being called up for a fourth Paralympic Games.

The Wyre Forest swimmer will represent Great Britain in Rio this summer after being selected a 31 strong swimming squad.

The 27-year-old will be one of the most experienced members of the team heading to South America after previously racing with distinction at Athens, Beijing and London.

“I actually think being selected for a fourth time is even more special,” said Cashmore.

“When you are 16 years old and called up you don’t realise just how big and important the Games are.

“But to be picked for a fourth time is a huge honour and I am so excited to be going again.

“I am now one of the oldest members of the squad and it just becomes more difficult to earn a place in the squad.

“I thought that London would be my final Games but there is something about the buzz and excitement of competing at a Paralympics, it’s addictive.”

Heading into the Games, she’s got nothing to prove with six Paralympic medals already secured, including silver in the SB8 100 metre breaststroke four years ago.

Cashmore has also shown encouraging signs of hitting form at the right time, despite being hampered by a sprained ankle sustained early in the year.

She clocked one minute and 21.67 seconds in the SB8 100 metre breaststroke at the British International Para meeting to book her spot in the squad.

Cashmore, whose left arm is missing below the elbow, returned from the IPC European Championships in Madeira with three medals.

She won gold and two bronzes and also set a new personal best.

Cashmore sliced over a second off her previous time as he set one minute and 10.62 seconds to take bronze in the S9 100-metre butterfly.

She then added a bronze in the SB8 100m breaststroke and gold in the 3x100m medley relay.

Cashmore added: “In the past I have been very hard on myself and my objectives.

“This time I am trying to be a little easier on myself but it’s not easy, I always put pressure on myself to succeed.

"I know there is one medal missing from my collection but I am only going to focus on doing my best and not worry about that the opposition do."

Cashmore has a series of training camps to take part and will also compete in the Scottish and national finals in the summer.
