BUSY Bewdley Tennis Club staged their start of season tournament which saw Oli Tombs and Penny Marchant triumph after beating off the challenge from Pete Mauger and reigning ladies singles champion Alison Rosoman.

There was some consolation for Rosoman when she teamed up with Tine Sylvester to win the Blind Date Mixed Tournament when they defeated Richard Litchfield and Sue Pennington in the final.

The threat of wet weather failed to dampen the spirits of players taking part in the club's popular Ladies Open competition which attracted 21 pairs.

Defending champions Rosoman and Mandy Sylvester were beaten in this year's final by the powerful Stourbridge pairing of Kerry Hill and Tracey Jones.

But there was some consolation when Nikki Guest and Audrey Bradley won the plate competition when beating Charlotte Ellam and Wndy Cook in an all Bewdley contest.

This season Bewdley will be fielding no less than 15 different teams across the men's, women's and mixed divisions of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire LTA League.

Bewdley also staged a successful open day at the end of April with over 50 people attending and registering their interest in either coaching or membership.

The next open day is scheduled for Sunday June 26 from 12 noon until 4pm.
