GOLF round-up: A PAIR from Wyre Forest Golf Club are aiming to book their places in the finals of Europe's biggest pro-am competition, the PGA National Pro-Am Championship.

Professional Chris Botterill and amateur Simon Marshall play in the regional qualifying tournament at Whittington Golf Club, where they will compete in one round of better-ball medal play.

The winning professional in the regional final receives £500, and there are valuable prizes for the top amateurs.

Marshall, 31, qualified for the tournament when he won his club's qualifying tournament with a score of 44. The Kidderminster resident has played golf for just 18 months and has a 20 handicap.

Chris Botterill, 32, has been a professional at Wyre Forest for five years.

If the duo are successful they will enjoy an expenses paid luxury trip to compete in the grand final, held on the PGA Sultan course at the Turkish Golf Club Antalya, where they will stay at the five-star Sirene Hotel and Beach Resort, between December 12 and 16.

This year's tournament is expected to receive entries from more than 100,000 club golfers from all over Great Britain and Ireland.

Last year's winners were from the Parc Golf Academy in Newport, with pro Richard Dinsdale and his talented amateur partner, JP Kim collecting the trophy.
