BEWDLEY Town have been told their application for a ground improvement grant won't be resolved until late August at the earliest.

It means much needed drainage work on their Ribbesford Meadow ground won't take place until next year's close season.

However, Bewdley have managed to perform some additional drainage work themselves by drilling into the pitch and applying some compressed air which in turn breaks up the soil.

They applied the same process to other areas of the pitch last season which helped considerably to prevent waterlogging which has plagued the ground in recent times.

Players report back to pre-season training next Thursday, June 30 and manager Phil Mullen has already lined up a number of friendlies.

Bewdley entertain Midland League One side Littletons on Saturday, July 9th at 3pm and then host local rivals Stourport Swifts on July 12th at 7-30pm.

Hellenic League side Tuffley Rovers from Gloucestshire visit Bewdley on July 16 before Midland League Premier side Lye Town travel to Bewdley on July 19.

Bewdley then visit Westfields, also from the Midland League Premier on July 23 before playing a return game at Stourport Swifts on July 29th.

Mullen maintained: "I've already spoken to a number of new players coming to Bewdley next season and the signs look promising."
