THERE was perfect weather as Bewdley Motorcycle Club hosted their third and final round of the clubman and beginners’ trials in Shatterford.

A record 54 riders, including 17 school pupils, tackled the four-lap which is famous for its climbs and turns.

With sections laid out sympathetically for the class of event, completion was close over the three routes.

The A route turned into an event-long battle, with three managing the perfect rides.

The trio of Andy Richardson (Yamaha), Kidderminster’s Stuart Matthews (Gas Gas) and schoolboy Joel Tett (Beta), showed their liking for the venue, while Jeremy Price (Beta) lost his single-mark score on his first visit to section eight.

Kidderminster’s Jim Pickering (Drayton Bantam) and Nigel Sproson (Sherco) could not be separated for most of the evening, that was until Sproson had to take a precautionary dab on section five, handing fifth position to the Kidderminster man.

The B route saw Richard Corbett (Beta) take the route win, but had Kevin Waldron (Gas Gas) not had the misfortune to lose two marks on his first visit to section two, the outcome may have been different.

Waldron’s two-mark total left him in a tie break situation with David Jackson (Montesa) and Stourport’ Bill Middup-Jones (Montesa).

Gaining more cleans than the two Montesa-mounted men, saw Waldron take the runner-up spot, while Bewdley club member Steve Leyshon (Draytom Bantam) headed Dan Cole (Gas Gas) by a slender margin.

The C Route saw Paul Bennett (Drayton Bantam) head to a second series victory, but once again it was close run.

Oscar Pattinson and Stourport’s Harvey Matthews (Beta) were close on his heels, but Bennet’s single-mark total could not be matched by the two schoolboys Hayden Pimley managed to finish ahead of Kidderminster’s Myles Greenwood (Beta), while the tie-break had to be used to separate Peter Rainsford (Montesa) and schoolgirl Nicole Tagg (Gas Gas). Rainsford gaining the last leaderboard position by clearing four more sections than Tagg.
