KIDDERMINSTER Carolians and visitors Berkswell & Balsall served up a feast of tries in the Midlands Intermediate Cup.

KCs won 48-25 in their clash against a team who lie third in Midlands League 2 West (south) and had a 100 per cent record before Saturday's match.

A high, hanging kick off by flyhalf Andy McLellan into a blustery wind set in motion a wave of attacks during the opening two minutes which ended with a converted try by Chris Pinner for the home team.

Four minutes later Berkswell hooker Nick Waite burrowed over from a five metre lineout, his try was converted by centre Jon Lowdon to level the scores at 7-7 with six minutes gone.

Five minutes later Pinner scored a penalty after KCs' pressure to make the score 10-7.

Controversy surrounded the next score after the referee overruled both touch judges to declare a penalty kick had gone over the crossbar - despite it appearing to have been under.

Confusion reigned until half time when the ref clarified that in his opinion the kick had been good.

The next fifteen minutes were cut and thrust but five minutes before the interval a long, wind-assisted Berkswell kick went dead to give KCs a scrum inside the visitors ten metre line.

The ball moved right before switching back inside to Alex Baldwin. He was stopped on the line but hooker Chris Jones was on hand to drive over and the try put Kidder back ahead 15-10.

With the last kick of the half Lowdon knocked over a long range penalty for Berkswell to reduce the gap to just two points at the break.

Five minutes into the second half Berkswell took the lead for the first time when fullback Henry Chamberlain made good ground down the right before finding winger Oliver Eburne, who ran in from twenty five metres.

KCs' revamped three quarter line had struggled for cohesion but suddenly everything clicked into place and the hosts blew Berkswell away with four tries in the space of twelve minutes.

Berkswell were not yet ready to give up and when Eburne scored an opportunist second try from a quickly taken tap penalty under the posts, easily improved by Lowdon, the visitors were not completely out of it at 43-25.

They piled on the pressure but Kidderminster stood firm and Woulfe scored for the hosts the last play of the afternoon.

KCs travel to Walsall on Saturday October 1, KO at 3pm.
