KIDDERMINSTER Cricket Club’s ground is officially the best in the Birmingham League.

Groundsman Chris Longmore has scooped the maximum quota of awards for both best pitches and outfield in the Premier Division and the entire league.

The accolade was announced at the annual awards dinner at which it was also revealed the first team, which finished runners-up in the Premier Division, came second in the league’s Fair Play Award.

Club chairman Les Vincent said: “This is testament to the hard work and enthusiasm Chris has put in this year in producing excellent playing surfaces for the 1st XI, county 2nd XI and visiting county representative sides.

“Our second square and other facilities have also been extensively used and we have Chris to thank for the compliments we receive.

“Our standing in the Fair Play table is also recognition of our approach to the game. Neil Pinner and Matt Pardoe have both set an excellent example when leading the side.”

The club’s Player of the Year award went to Pinner, who has taken over as captain from Pardoe whose work commitments mean he is unavailable for part of the season.

Pinner topped the table. scoring 927 runs at an average of 61.80.

Young Player of the Year was awarded to Sam Beadsworth, who at just 16 has opened with stalwart Mark Mansell for the 2nd XI this season.

Clubman of the year was Ryan Field and the Dennis Jones Award for outstanding contributions behind the scenes went to Alice O’Brien, who took on preparing teas for all five teams’ home games.

Captains’ Player of the Year awards were presented to Connor Smith (1st XI). Mark Mansell (2nd XI), Sam Gall (3rd XI), Leon Burke (4th XI) and Matt Hatfield (5th XI).
