COOKLEY Sports U16 girls notched up two massive results in a weekend which brought league and cup success.
They defeated Derby County FC 3-0 away on Saturday to maintain their 100% start to the CWGFL Premier League season and then on Sunday winning the Continental Tyres Youth Cup at Manchester City prior to the Ladies FA Cup Final.
The girls produced another controlled and disciplined performance on Saturday taking the lead after 15 minutes with Beth Whitehouse heading home from a Jess Brett corner.
Derby found it tough to match Cookley's work rate, endeavour down both wings, solidity and guile in the centre and quality up top producing numerous opportunities throughout the game only to be denied by the Derby keeper and the woodwork.
Cookley pressed from the off in the second half and were rewarded when Jess Brett delivered another quality corner this time being glanced home by Amy Pyne.
A wasteful Cookley in the second half should have extended the lead by a greater margin before Lucy Stephens produced another long range effort for the second week running, this time from her right foot to make it a comfortable 3-0 victory and maintain top spot, player of the match was Caitlyn Walton.
On Sunday the girls attended the Continental Youth Cup National Finals at Manchester City and with two teams entered finished winners and runners-up beating teams including Sheffield United to be presented with the inaugural trophy at half time of the Women's FA Cup final.
