DARCIE Hancocks, aged 14, from Kidderminster and a Bewdley High School Pupil has won first place in a mixed martial arts world championships in Manchester.

The World Fighting Martial Arts Council (WFMC) event attracted players from all over the world and was open to players who had qualified through winning their national titles.

She was entered into the junior category for Grappling and BJJ.

Darcie went through to the final where she found herself up against the German champion who was several years older and much taller.

The fight was a very tactical affair and both girls were cancelling each other out until the midpoint when Darcie threw her to the ground with a brilliant hip throw.

The fight continued on the ground and Darcie managed to hold her pinned to the mat winning the contest on points.
