A PARTY at Worcestershire County Cricket Club next month will bring down the curtain on an action-packed benefit year for long-serving player Daryl Mitchell.

A programme over the last 12 months has seen a host of fund-raising activities, including cricket matches at local clubs, dinners and quizzes, climaxing with a star-studded evening at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The final event for Mitchell’s benefit year takes place at New Road on Friday, November 25 and will include music from the Jonathon Knight Roadshow.

It has been a tough time for Mitchell who was stripped of the captaincy last month after six years by director of cricket Steve Rhodes.

At the time, Mitchell said he was “bitterly disappointed” and “deeply hurt” by the decision to replace him as skipper.

Mitchell has been replaced as captain by all-rounder Joe Leach.

Mark Ashbourne, a driving force behind Mitchell’s benefit committee, said: “Daryl and his benefit committee are very grateful for all the support received from individuals and organisations in a highly enjoyable and rewarding year.

“We hope as many people as possible will be able to join Daryl at New Road for what is set to be a night of celebration.”

Tickets, costing £25 each, include a pie and chips supper and guests are asked to arrive by 7.30pm.
