TEAMS from Kidderminster Snooker League competed in the quarter-finals of the Championship Cup and the preliminary round of the Championship Plate last week.

The first match saw an all Pockets and all Premier Division clash with the ‘S’ team playing hosts to the ‘D’ team.

Pockets S started the match on the front foot with Charles Newey scoring 80 points. Andy Jackson then bettered this with a score of 88, within which he had a 76 break.

This put the S team more than 100 points in front. The gap expanded as the S team took the other three frames. The pick of these games was a 25 clearance to win by Gary Ruston as his side eventually won by 158 points.

In the second match, St Johns E and Pockets D, both of the Premier Division, met at St Johns.

St Johns started well with James Allington scoring 81 including a 25 break and won the next two frames. Martin Lippitt scored 74 including a break of 30. Alan Ward of Pockets pulled a frame back with a 25 and 21 in his score of 83. This meant Pockets went into the final frame 65 points behind and ended the match losing by 73 points.

The third of the quarter-finals saw new boys Three Lions of The First Division hosting Pockets B of the Premier League.

Tony Kidd of Pockets set the tone of the match scoring 94 points. Ian Baker of Three Lions won the second frame scoring 68 points and pulling back some of the difference. Pockets then hit back winning the next two frames with Richard Pepperall scoring 100 in his frame. The last frame followed the same way with the pair of Richard Pepperall and Gareth Ward for Pockets scoring 98 with Richard having a 54 break. This saw Pockets win by 235 points.
