BEWDLEY Town boss Phil Mullen has no fears over losing goal machine Lewis Pountney.

The ex-Gloucester City, Stourport Swifts, Evesham United poacher plundered yet another double to help sink Willenhall Town 3-0 last weekend, maintaining his two-goals-per-game ratio.

With 24 already in the onion bag from 12 league outings, non-leagues vultures have inevitably started to circle but his manager reckons Pountney is unlikely to leave Ribbesford Meadow at this stage of his career.

"There have been one or two sniffing but he has done the rounds and operated at a decent level," said Mullen. "He was just playing Sunday football but being local, we managed to get him back involved.

"He is talented where it matters but also good around the club as well, which is important. He's comfortable where he is and has sorted us out so we're happy.

"He declined an approach from Bromsgrove a while back. At his age and with the work he has on, you can understand why he just wants to play and enjoy it. The club fits well with Lewis's other commitments so it is a win-win situation."

Bewdley sit eighth in the West Midlands Premier having lost just once in 10 league outings and Mullen is pleased with his squad's progress.

"We have a decent squad," he added. "We said on Saturday how pleased we were to see lads coming off the bench and influencing the game, driving everyone on again. It was good.

"In the past, we have struggled for numbers but we sorted it quite quickly after a poor start. Everybody turns up for training, no one wants to let down the side and that mentality creates a healthy situation.

Captain Aaron Stubbins is likely to be out until the turn of the year with an ankle injury but Mullen has no other injury concerns going into Saturday's home clash with Pegasus (3pm).
