SAMURAI Judo Club players Leah Grosvenor and Olivia Turner followed up their medals at the Midlands Age Bands with bronzes at The English Cadet Open in Thetford.

Olivia competed in the over 70 kilos weight category despite being only around 75 kg and therefore giving a huge amount of weight away to some of her opponents.

Nevertheless, she fought well to reach the semi-final before losing to a Scottish girl and having to settle for bronze.

Leah, who won gold in both the cadet and junior sections the previous weekend, started well and reached the quarter-final, which she won in spectacular style in just ten seconds.

However, she gave away an early score in the semi-final and despite a lot of pressure was unable to equalize.

This left her with one more match for the bronze against one of her main rivals from London.

This was an excellent contest from both players and despite again going behind to an early score, Leah ended by winning the contest and the bronze with an excellent backwards throw for a high score into a ground hold from which her opponent could not escape.
