COOKLEY Girls U16s have progressed to the Open Cup final after a 1-0 victory over Coventry United.
A Jess Brett strike direct from a corner midway through the first half, was enough to earn her side a semi-final victory.
Cookley played a controlled and patient game nullifying any threat offered by a hard working Coventry side save for a late first half effort that was excellently saved by Cookley keeper Rosie Taylor.
Lucy Stephens and Evie Billingsley worked well up top and engineered two first half opportunities that went narrowly wide, the second half continued in a similar pattern, but with Coventry fading late on, it allowed Cookley to dominate possession and see the game out.
Cookley will meet Croughton Diamonds in the final on May 13, after the side from Northampton despatched Worcester City 4-2 in the other semi-final.
The league leaders now have a week off before returning to action against Sporting Khalsa on March 25.
