WORCESTERSHIRE academy continue a busy spell at Walmley tomorrow in round one of the Birmingham and District Premier League’s Graham Williamson Trophy (12.30pm).

The 40-over knockout cup will provide a competitive edge for the County side who normally stage friendlies through the summer.

Coach Elliot Wilson’s players also have a tri-series with Northamptonshire and Leicestershire later in the year with three-day, 50-over and T20 matches.

If triumphant against Walmley the academy will visit Leamington or Dorridge in round two seven days later.

There is a plate competition instead if the County are beaten.

Teams will all play in coloured clothing and use pink balls.

The academy enjoyed the Shrewsbury School pre-season tournament this week with a hat-trick of wins.

They finished off with a six-wicket defeat of Worksop College with 21.4 overs to spare after bowling out their opponents for 117.

Josh Dickenson (4-32) and Charlie Greening (3-31) did most of the damage after Matt Davis made a double early breakthrough.

A third-wicket partnership of 68 between Dan Holland (30) and Josh Dell (38 not out) ensured victory while there were 37 extras including 34 wides.

It followed the academy's triumphs over Millfield School and hosts Shrewsbury School at the competition.
