KIDDERMINSTER Cricket Club took it to the last delivery but lost by a narrow margin in the Williamson Trophy.

Their second round match away against Ombersley finished with the totals level on 183 and the hosts were declared the winners after losing six wickets while Kidderminster were nine down.

Both sides batted out their 40 overs after Kidderminster won the toss and chose to field first.

Ombersley made a steady start with 37 runs coming in the first 10 overs, first man out was Dominic D’Oliveira (13) bowled by Liam Weston. A stand of 60 between Liam Gwynne (48) and Nick Hammond ended when Rob Cross, a young wicket keeper making his debut, stumped Gwynne off the bowling of Charlie Stainforth.

The score had progressed from 97-2 to 125-4 with Gareth Andrew (20) out caught by Josh Tidmarsh off the bowling of Stainforth.

KCC then had a change of fortune, taking the next three wickets for just 36 runs. The wickets fell on 148, 154 and 161 by the 36th over.

Oliver Uffindall (9) was caught by Pat Brown bowled Richard Kimberlin, Godfrey Lamb caught Nick Hammond bowled Weston for 45 and Ted Baylis (5) was run out by bowler Brown who kicked the ball to hit the stumps.

Ombersley scored 21 more runs, with Andrew Robertson (14) and Simon Harwood (7) the not out batsmen Weston took 2-29, Stainforth 2-36 and Kimberlin 1-16.

The highest scoring batsmen were skipper Neil Pinner (30), Liam Weston (20), but man of the match was certainly Connor Smith with a knock of 78. He struck six fours and a six before being run out by former KCC player Ted Baylis.

Uffindal took 3-25 from his six overs with Fiaz, Robertson and Slade getting one each.

Kidderminster start their league campaign on Saturday at Walsall (noon start), the club's second XI are at home against Walsall (12.30pm start).
