SAMURAI Judo Club scored double gold at the British Minors Championships with both of their entrants winning British titles.

James Harrison stormed to gold, winning all four of his contests emphatically.

He started with a spectacular maximum point throw against a player from Northern Ireland then followed up with an excellent throw into a hold in his second contest against a player from Surrey.

This put him into the semi-final where he launched a player from the North of England into the air for maximum points and a place in the final.

James was looking unstoppable and the final against a London player, although it was the only one of his matches to go the distance, saw him scoring five times without conceding a score to take his first major title.

Harry Ashen defeated players from Surrey and Wales on his way to the final against a player from the Wirral.

As this was the same player that Harry had beaten in the final of the English Open in June, Harry was very confident and the result went the same way again, with Harry scoring early on and moving into a groundhold for maximum points and the gold medal.

The event is the British Championships for the youngest age band of national level competitors, aged 10 and 11 years.

It was held at the Welsh National Sports Centre in Cardiff, the day after the British Masters at the same venue, where the Samurai had taken gold with Gary Knight plus five bronzes for players from the Kidderminster club.
