SAMURAI Judo Club’s James Harrison swept the field at the Southern Area Open in Sussex to win gold while Olivia Turner had some epic battles on her way to a hat-trick of silver medals.
James, the current British Champion in his age range, won all three of his contests by spectacular throws.
He was so in control in his last contest he was able to avoid using his trademark shoulder throw and experiment with some other throws and score maximum points with a rear throw.
Olivia entered her own age and weight category plus the weight a category above and the age range above, a total of three categories.
Consequently she was on the contest mat for more than 35 minutes which is a long time to be in action, a judo contest is normally four minutes.
She twice fought a player one and a half times her body weight and the last tussle lasted nearly eight minutes before she was finally caught.
Meanwhile, another Samurai player, Loic Keasey, was in High Wycombe for the National Independent Schools Championships.
Loic, who is also British Champion in his age range, defeated everybody in both his own age range and the one above to win gold.
