GEORGE Rhodes scored 95 and Ross Whiteley 70 as Worcestershire lost by 21 runs to West Indies A in a 50-over contest at Blackfinch New Road.

The tourists amassed 338-9 as young County prospect Dillon Pennington’s five wickets proved expensive at 67 runs from nine overs.

Whiteley produced a rare bowling stint and claimed 4-58 from nine overs.

But West Indies were particularly harsh on spinner Rhodes whose 10 went for 81 runs.

Opener Jermaine Blackwood smashed 119 from 122 balls with 14 fours.

And captain Jason Mohammed produced an even more brutal display with 142 off 120 balls including 11 fours and four sixes.

The duo combined for an imposing third-wicket stand of 238.

Rovman Powell added a quick 42 from 24 deliveries with three fours and two sixes.

In reply, Ollie Westbury departed early for eight but fellow opener Rhodes impressed before falling five runs short of his century off 98 balls with 13 fours and one six.

Tom Fell added 28, Jack Haynes 33, Josh Dell 46 and Whiteley 70 off 45 deliveries with seven fours and three sixes.

But Worcestershire’s young side ran out of overs and were down to the lower-order batsmen when they fell comfortably short on 317-8.

Zain Ul-Hassan finished on nine not out and Pennington on 4no.

Chemar Holder claimed 3-42 from 10 overs as he took the most wickets for the visitors and proved to be the most economical bowler.
