THREE Worcestershire captains past and present are among those to praise the achievements of Jack Shantry after he announced his retirement from all cricket due to injury.

Daryl Mitchell, who skippered the side from 2011 to 2016, said Shantry has “give a huge amount to Worcestershire cricket”.

PCA chairman Mitchell added Shantry “was certainly my ‘go-to man’ as captain and who could ever forget Shantry’s match.”

Current captain Joe Leach said 30-year-old Shantry had been “a brilliant servant for Worcestershire” and “a pleasure to have played alongside”.

Interim skipper Brett D’Oliveira, deputising for the injured Leach, said Shantry had “a great career” and that it had been “a pleasure to have shared the same dressing room”.

Batsman Joe Clarke said Shantry had been “a batter's nightmare for 10 seasons” and that they will “sleep better knowing they don’t have to face you any more”.

Fellow batsman Tom Fell echoed the sentiments of many Worcestershire players when saying “it has been a pleasure to play alongside you in the past few years”.
