SAMURAI Judo Club's James Harrison followed up his recent gold medal at the London Open with another gold, this time at the English Minors Open.

The competition was exclusively for players aged under 12 and James, the current British minors champion, was always expected to do well.

He always looked in control and won each match by a clear margin to take the gold.

Harry Ashen, also current British minors champion, had a strong field in his heavyweight category but did well to beat the player who won gold at the London Open to reach the final of his category before losing and having to settle for silver.

James is unbeaten in his own age group for nearly a year having won gold at the British, English, southern area and London Opens.

Lucas Kent, aged 16, became the latest member of the Samurai club to gain his black belt.

The club currently has 40 black belts, of which 12 and third level black or above and three are sixth dans.

In its 39 year history the club has had 125 black belts.

Samurai seniors won medals at the High Wycombe Masters. Mark Allen took gold in the men’s kyu grades (grades below black belt) section, whilst Rob Alloway took a silver in the men’s high grades lightweights section.
