WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids boss Kevin Sharp insists they can achieve the T20 holy grail this season.

Rapids, who play their next Vitality Blast game at home to local rivals Birmingham Bears tonight (5.30pm), have never reached finals day in the shorter format of the game.

But the County have made the Royal London One-Day Cup semi-finals for the last two campaigns, losing to Kent at Blackfinch New Road this year.

And head coach Sharp said: "It’s a fine line. Worcestershire have been in three quarter-finals in recent years and very near to finals day.

“We didn’t do that well in the T20 last year but when you look at some of the white-ball cricket we’ve played we’ve had two semi-finals in two years in the one-day cup.

“The team is capable, that is for sure. Winning is a habit just like losing is and if you are on a roll of playing successfully then you’ve got some momentum.

“I’m sure there will be one or two teams looking, one or two bowlers, hoping our batting line-up doesn’t fire as it is capable of doing.

“We bat deep down and they are all capable of a major contribution which is something to look forward to.”

Sharp has seen T20 evolve dramatically since he last occupied a similar role at Yorkshire 15 years ago.

He said: “Players' skills levels have improved enormously. There is a lot more attention paid now to improvisation, both with the bat and the ball.

“T20 has been the catalyst for players developing as rapidly as they have done.

“It was trial and error back then (in 2003). It was in its infancy and no one quite knew what to expect.

“It has evolved rapidly. T20 has become almost the focal point of world cricket really.

"There are big tournaments all around the world now and some players just play T20 cricket.

“Ten years ago you probably would never have thought that but these things evolve and there are huge competitions everywhere.”
