BOSS Neil MacFarlane called for Harriers to add killer instinct to their high-energy play following a goalless draw with Telford United.

Kidderminster shared the spoils with the Bucks at Aggborough on Tuesday night to make it successive draws to start the new season.

They also had to settle for a point last Saturday as they drew 3-3 at Alfreton Town on the opening day.

The manager was pleased with the performance against Telford but knows exactly what was missing from the display.

He said: "We are early in the season and there is a long way to go. I'm pleased with what I have seen in the opening two games in terms of the endeavour the group are showing. They really are applying what I'm asking of them with that high-energy football. "We just needed to be a bit calmer in possession at times and to pick that right opportunity when it came.

"I thought we got into a number of areas and I thought our two wing-backs did well. Vaughan in the first half was electric and put in some unbelievable crosses, and Sammy Austin's work ethic was incredible.

"It was a frustrating evening in many respects, in terms of the goalkeeper seeming to take so long to restart the game. But other than that, to be fair to Telford, I thought they were very hard-working side.

"It was a typical derby and was frantic at times. We just needed to be a little bit calmer in that final moment.

"In terms of the other side of the game, we gave them no chances really and our organisation was very, very good.

"At the start of the match I think we played with that energy and tempo I want to see from the side. Then as the game goes on we were really on top. The second half was total domination and Baxy (James Baxendale) nearly nicked it at the end which would have been great.

"But it wasn't to be and it's two draws to start. A clean sheet is a positive and we move onto Saturday."

Harriers will now welcome newly-promoted Ashton United to Aggborough this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

"They had a good away win tonight so we'll have to show that defensive organisation I spoke about and then have that little bit of creativity at that final moment to pick the right final pass to get in," added the boss.
