HARRIERS boss Neil MacFarlane says their draw with Ashton United was a "valuable lesson" as they look to progress this season.

The Reds struck late to salvage a point against United to make it three wins from three games this season.

Harriers never led in the game but goals from sub Joel Taylor, Ash Chambers and sub Kane Richards ensured they fought back despite Dan Bradley's second half red card.

MacFarlane said: "It was an incredible ending to the game but the first half was unacceptable from our perspective.

"It's the first time I've seen that from the group, even through all the training sessions and into the matches. We just didn't start properly.

"I told them that that is a valuable lesson for us moving forward and, as I said, it's a new group of players, a new management team, a new everything at the club.

"What the fans can see is that we are giving absolutely everything and we hope to win games and keep our unbeaten run rather than drawing."

The boss was also pleased with his side's second half showing, adding: "We went to a diamond keeping the two strikers up, but as I said to the group, it's not the manager, the manager makes a tactical chance, it's the players and their mindset and the mindset was totally different second half as it was to the first.

"Even when we lost the man, which is obviously disappointing, and going down to 10 men, I though we were outstanding. Our attitude was incredible to fight and find a way back into the game.

"We're not satisfied drawing at home but happy to get a point under the circumstances."
