WORCESTERSHIRE head coach Kevin Sharp is still targeting a home quarter-final after Rapids fell by five wickets to Notts Outlaws in their penultimate Vitality Blast North Group encounter.

Brett D’Oliveira hit his highest T20 score of 64 in Rapids' 191-6 but Riki Wessels' 55 off 18 balls put Outlaws on the way to a victory they achieved with 11 balls left at Blackfinch New Road.

Rapids, Durham Jets and Lancashire Lightning all enter their final group fixtures in contention to finish in the top two.

The County's local rivals Birmingham Bears have a key role as they host Lancashire on Wednesday and Rapids on Friday.

Jets entertain Derbyshire Falcons on Friday with Rapids in third position — one point adrift of Durham and just behind Lightning on run-rate.

After three matches in four days Rapids' players have a few days to recharge their batteries before returning to prepare on Wednesday.

Sharp said of the Notts defeat: “We were quite happy with our score. I actually don’t think there was much in the game, probably three overs when they were batting.

“Wessels played some fantastic shots and that is the first time that has probably happened to us by an individual in the first six overs to that extent.

“They got off to a flier, 80-odd runs in six overs, but I was really pleased we got back into the game.

“That showed again the fight and resilience of the lads and there looked a point where it could get tight again.

“They had that one good over, played three good shots against Mo (Moeen Ali) and whacked them for six and that’s what got them over the line.

“You win one, you lose one and fortunately this year we’ve won more than we’ve lost and are still in a quarter-final but we do want a home tie.

“Dolly (D'Oliveira) has been a bit short of runs for him but he and Coxy (Ben Cox) had a good partnership.

“Coxy didn’t go on to make a big score but he contributed and for two lads who have probably been a bit short of runs it was very pleasing to see. Dolly played a fantastic innings.”
