STOURPORT Swifts have crashed out of the FA Cup after two defensive errors proved costly in a 2-1 defeat at AFC Mansfield.

Swifts took the lead in a tightly contested first half when Ben Priest drove home from the edge of the box after being teed up by Nick MacPherson.

Evo Stik East Division side Mansfield started strongly, but Swifts looked solid at the back. Defender Jordan Annable headed over the top from a Jim Gaichem cross, and Lynton Karkach shot wide as Mansfield pressed, while MacPherson shot tamely at keeper Jason White and Jim Hanson forced White to a fingertip save which was tipped just around the post.

Shortly into the second half Jack Downing was caught in possession and Karkach made no mistake, firing low past Zach Jeacock to level the scores, then Brad Wells shot straight at the keeper from close range as Mansfield pressed for a winner.

MacPherson shot over the top after good work from Canavan in Swifts best spell of the second half, but disaster struck again in the 82nd minute when a mix up between Griffiths and Joe Hanson put Wells clean through to shoot low past Jeacock for the winner.

Swifts were looking to bounce back quickly from their FA Cup defeat as they were due to host Littleton in the final of the Worcester Infirmary Cup at Walshes Meadow on Wednesday night.

Following that, Stourport will get back to Midland League action as they head to Highgate United on Saturday for a Premier Division tie.

Swifts find themselves 15th in the table following a last Tuesday’s 1-1 home draw with Boldmere St Michaels.
