SKIPPER Neil Pinner praised the team spirit in the Kidderminster camp after his side claimed the division title on Saturday.

Needing only six points from their remaining two matches to be crowned Birmingham and District League Division One champions, KCC claimed that exact amount in a reduced overs loss to Brockhampton.

Although Pinner admitted his side was not at their best at the weekend, he was more than happy that his side wrapped up the league title with one match to go.

“I’m really happy,” he said. “It’s not quite the way we wanted to do it on Saturday, but we got the points we needed and that’s all that mattered.

“Our aim going into this season was always promotion, but the league title is an added bonus.

“The big difference between this season and the last was the spirit in the team. Last year we had quite a few inexperienced guys but we have all gelled and are a stronger unit now.

“I think our bowling attack has been the key to our season. We have had a really strong bowling unit who have been able to put pressure on all the teams we have come up against.

“Then the batters have stepped up as and when they were needed.”

Kidderminster lost the toss against Brockhampton and were put into bat, but found themselves a wicket down after just 30 runs when Andrew Kimberlin (17) was caught by Tom Cummins.

Richard Kimberlin (68) and Ben Twohig (22) helped steady the ship, before Twohig was caught out following a ball from Worcestershire’s Daryl Mitchell (1-37).

With the weather turning, KCC made 213-5 off 46 overs, setting Brockhampton a revised target 148 from 25 overs after Duckworth Lewis came into play.

Mitchell (45) opened the batting for the visitors, but was caught out by Thomas Kimberlin from Charlie Stainforth’s bowling.

Stainforth was the pick of the Kidderminster bowlers posting 3-26 off his five overs, but his bowling heroics could not stop Brockhampton reaching the target with four wickets and one over left to spare.

KCC now face a final day trip to Bromsgrove on Saturday, with Pinner calling on his players to end on a high.

“We were on the wrong end of the Duckworth Lewis and the weather, but that can happen from time to time.

“We’re lucky we have another game this weekend, so hopefully we can get back to where we were and have a strong finish to the season.”
