STOURBRIDGE came out on top of an entertaining clash despite a late fightback from Tyndale at Stourton Park.

It took 12 minutes for Stour to get on the scoreboard following some good play where, in spite of some early errors, they managed to dominate the scrum set pieces. The only moment of concern was when a Joe Heatley clearance kick was charged down but he reacted quickly to regather and clear the danger.

A scrum penalty led to a 22 metre lineout, Hal Riley broke through the visitors' defence and the ball was fed out to Joe Heatley who dived over for his first try but Rickie Aley was unable to add the extras.

Tynedale hit back and could have claimed a try from a maul following a lineout but the ball was held up and Stourbridge survived.

On 38 minutes Heatley added a second try after a trademark chip by Rickie Aley sending the ball high to the right in the direction of Mark Harrison.

Harrison tapped the ball to the waiting George Morgan who passed to Heatley who flat-footed the defence and strolled over for his brace and Aley converted to make the half time score 12-0.

From the restart, Stour skipper Llyr Griffiths took a brilliant catch however the resulting Stour counter attack was penalised and a second penalty gave the visitors a lineout six metres from the try line.

Clean ball was sent to number 8 Joe Mills who bagged the try but Rob Parker was unable to convert.

Tynedale only had to wait 6 minutes for their second try scored by Newcastle Falcons loanee Morgan Passman although again the conversion was missed.

The visitors continued to apply pressure but a fumbled a knock-on fell into the hands of Joe Heatley.

He made 10 metres and was tackled just as he slipped a clever pass to wingman Mark Harrison whose blistering pace saw a 35-metre dash take him over for an unconverted try on 54 minutes.

Niall Gibbons was rewarded next as Stour were given a penalty when a Tynedale player kicked the ball out of a ruck.

The kick was sent to the five metre line and the catch and drive was set up for Gibbons to score and Aley to convert.

The kck-off also fell to Gibbons who passed left to replacement winger Dan Rundle who out paced the Tynedale defence and sprinted 50 metres to score in the left corner.

Stourbridge opened the door for a close finish by conceding a penalty try after twice pulling down the lineout, which also resulted in a yellow card for Nick Murphy.

Tynedale took advantage of the one-man advantage and the pressure finally paid off on 77 minutes when danger man Passman went over for his second try which was converted by Parker.

Stour were lucky not to concede from scrum but were saved by a knock-on and held out to win the game by a 29-24 scoreline.
